The new Cancer Superdrug!

Exercise lowers your risk of getting many cancers but this week more evidence from the Macmillan Cancer Support charity that exercise is also a ‘wonder drug’ for cancer survivors and could help prevent the disease returning. After a review of sixty studies exercise has been shown to reduce the side effects of the treatments including anxiety, depression and fatigue. Also, exercise has an impact on preventing the recurrence of certain cancers such as prostate and breast. For example, women with breast cancer who exercise for 150 minutes a week had a 40% lower risk of dying and recurrence of the disease compared to those exercising for less than an hour a week.

According to the Charity’s chief medical officer- ‘if physical exercise were a drug it would be hitting the headlines.’
