Lifestyle and Cancer

More seriously this week another word of warning that many cancers are caused by poor lifestyle choices. Professor Martin Wiseman from the World Cancer Research Fund says that although the projected doubling of global cancer rates is largely due to an ageing population cancer is not inevitable. He says ‘ It is clear that the rising number of lifestyle-related cancers is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today. It is important we do not underestimate it.’  ’We have seen over the last century that as countries have become more industralised, people in those countries have become more overweight, less active and eaten more processed foods.’  Poor lifestyle choices will result in many millions of early deaths around the globe. As I often point out to people there are choices we can make to greatly lower our risk of getting many of the chronic diseases. Smoking still accounts for nearly half of all cancer deaths and the rise in breast cancers are not genetic (only 5% of these cancers are) but obesity and increasing alcohol consumption. To help keep yourself well- watch your weight by taking regular exercise and reduce calorie dense processed toxic foods. More blogs to come on the right type of exercise and food but if you would like a diet overhaul and analysis let me know.
