BOTOX increases your FAT
As it is that time of year, when we think about how we look, and burning off the New Year excesses here is a word of warning about a popular beauty treatment. Researches reporting in the Journal of Biomechanics have found that Botox jabs cause muscle wastage in parts of the body that have not been injected. Harmful effects of long term use such as facial sagging and muscle weakness were already well known but this is the first time that muscle loss has been reported, including in limbs which have not been treated. This loss can also be up to 50%! This is important as many of you will know that muscle boosts metabolism and therefore is important for weight/fat loss. Less muscle means you are more likely to gain fat- this is one reason why resistance training is so important in exercise programmes. I guess this shows that a degree of caution with these treatments is necessary- any such intervention is not costless in a number of ways and there are no short cuts- If you want to look good eat well and move often.
