Survive Monday Morning
Its been shown that people who suffer heart attacks between 6am to midday suffer a fifth more damage to their heart muscle compared with those who have an attack later on. The study published in the medical journal Heart is the first to show that heart attacks in the morning are more severe. It is already well established that more attacks occur in the morning, in fact you are four times more likely to suffer a heart attack at this time of day. Although the reasons behind this are not entirely known levels of hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin are higher in the morning preparing the body to wake up. These hormones increase heart rate, blood pressure and sugar levels in the blood stream. In other words metabolism is higher in the mornings and falls throughout the day along with blood pressure. It is also known that there are more heart attacks in the winter than the summer and Monday is the most dangerous day of the week due to people drinking more alcohol at the weekend and the stress of returning to work. Thank god for all those bank holiday Mondays and look forward to your lunch.
