Watch your back

Ever had a back problem then you will appreciate how painful this condition can be and how much your movement can be affected. Back pain is the biggest cause of absence from work and costs the NHS around 2 billion a year and is on the increase, mainly due to our sedentary lifestyles and poor posture.  At some time around 80% of us will suffer a back problem and although most are minor and clear up relatively quickly there are many things we can do to help reduce our risks. The main reason we miss a lot of work is that we sit for too long at our desks. According to the British Chiropractic Association 32% of the population spends more than 10 hours a day sitting down, with most people not even getting up for lunch. When you are seated you place around twice as much load on your back compared to standing and most of that extra loading is concentrated in your lower spine. It is therefore important to take regular breaks- get up, walk around and stretch and think about your posture.  Taking regular exercise is essential for joints and muscles as it delivers fresh blood and nutrients to those structures.

If you would like some postural advice with some mobilty and stretching exercises for your back then just let me know.
